Tonic's host Dr Norman Swan leads a team of reporters who cover all aspects of health from lifestyle to complementary medicines to the laboratory bench. Norman is Australia's leading health journalist with a broadcast career spanning 30 years as a highly sought after producer, presenter and commentator. He is host of The Health Report on ABC Radio National as well as a guest reporter on Catalyst, Four Corners and Can We Help and is the medical expert on Channel Ten's The Biggest Loser. He has been honoured with three Walkley awards (Australian journalism's equivalent of the Pulitzer Awards) including the prestigious gold, as well as being the third ever recipient of the Medal of the Australian Academy of Science.

Karen Carey reports on consumer issues based on many years experience as a leading champion of consumer rights in health. Her focus is helping people get more out of the healthcare system, and knowing the right questions to ask to improve their health outcomes.
As a former Chair of Health Consumers Council WA and current Board Member of Consumers' Health Forum, Karen has been a chief investigator on important consumer focused research projects and chaired expert groups developing key strategic plans and clinical guidelines. Karen's focus is on educating consumers to use healthcare systems wisely to improve health outcomes and also on developing a stronger, more efficient healthcare system.
